1. Is it a pain to put on your car?
Nah! Most RTTs just bolt onto your roof racks. First setup takes a bit, but after that, you can open or close it in like 5 minutes. Way easier than a regular tent.
2. Does it wreck your gas mileage?
Yeah, it’ll use a bit more gas. Think of it like putting a big suitcase on your roof. You might lose 1-3 MPG on the highway. But for having your own mobile bedroom, it’s totally worth it for most overlanding trips.
3. Is this even legal to drive with?
Yep, driving with it closed is fine everywhere. Just don’t drive with it open! Laws are different everywhere, so always check your local rules.
4. How many people can actually sleep up there?
Most are comfy for 2 adults. The big thing to check is two numbers: your tent’s weight capacity (how much weight it holds when you’re sleeping) and your car’s roof weight limit (how much it can carry while driving). Don’t skip checking this!
